My parents are both in their 70%26#39;s and are moderately deconditioned because of their heart problems, I am planning on taking them on a couple of day trips to Muir woods and alcatraz. I have read Extranomical tours is a good one - any other suggestions? I do not think they have an Alcatraz tour though. How about cruise tours on SF bay? Or other tours that would not require as much walking. Basically, I%26#39;m looking for a tour that caters to smaller groups.

When will you all be here? That is going to make a difference in the answers about Alcatraz. Currently, Blue and Gold Fleet is the ONLY provider of Alcatraz tours, however, at this point, they are only the official carrier until the end of May. Hornblower is supposed to be taking over, but we are not sure when this transition will happen.
You are not really going to find a small group tour for Alcatraz. The night tour is less crowded than the day as they do not allow as many people, but then you do have the possible wind/chill factor more so than with a day tour.
Anyway, there is a tram that will take them to the cell house since they are not capable of the walk so don%26#39;t worry about that part. Once there, it isn%26#39;t too bad and really shouldn%26#39;t be strenuous and they can go at their own pace.
The Blue %26amp; Gold Fleet also does a Muir Woods tour --Not sure how good it is, but I thought I would throw the name out there.

Merca, as far as Muir Woods and the limitations of your family, have you thought of a private guide? You will get driven where you want to go with in depth explanations about the area, flora, fauna, birds, geology, etc. It%26#39;s quite worth it. The best local guide, as far as natural history is at www.calnaturalist.com. The best thing about your own guide, is you will not have to keep up with other people as if you were on a public bus tour. It might be a bit more expensive than the bus tours, but considering there is a few of you, it may work out even. Getting a private guide will be so much more rewarding.
We took the Extranomical tour last year and then I sent my parents on it this year. They loved it. Muir Woods is a very easy walk and in the Wine Country the wineries that Extranomical visits are small and intimate for the van tour so it is quite nice. I really fancied thier tour and would recommend it again.
