We will be in San Francisco on Saturday May 27th. We will be coming from Sacramento leaving the car at the El Norte De Cetro Bart Station. When we arrive where do we get off to catch the bus to the Golden Gate Bridge? I hope this is enought information.

Golden Gate Bridge
There are several ways, but suggest you exit at Montgomery station (2nd stop in SF. Go upstairs. Catch the 5, 31, or 38 westbound bus on Market. $1.50 fare. Be sure to get a transfer. Exit at Park- Presidio Blvd (it would be 13 th Ave if they didn%26#39;t call it something else). All 3 lines intersect PP Blvd.Transfer to the 28, northbound. It will stop at the toll plaza.

El Cerrito del Norte station...
Thank you for the Spell Check.
Thank you Bings. I could not for the life of me work out what that Bart station was. :-)
the MUNI route suggested above - while accurate - will take you a looong time. You would be much better off driving into the city and up to the bridge, where there is ample free tourist parking. My guess is that it would save you 1.5 hours each direction.
Sadly the bridge is not well served by public transit.
Thank you for all your info. Can you park the car there all day? Or were would you all suggest we park it for the day.

The SF toll plaza has parking meters. There are some free lots nearby in the Presidio. What else are you going to do? The bridge is not that close to other attractions. You might consider parking at Crissy Field or elsewhere in the Presidio. Take the free shuttle to the bridge. Or walk along the bayfront and up to the bridge. Check out Ft Point, under the bridge.

1 1/2 hours travel via bus is an exaggeration. It really depends on where else you want to go if you are trying to decide whether to drive in or take public transport. Parking can be difficult and costly, but may be more convenient and worth the hassle and expense. If the bridge is your primary destination, then drive. You can always go back via the GGBridge for variety, instead of the Bay Bridge. If you are staying overnight, you can park free at most meters after 7 on Sat and on Sunday. Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf and piers excluded.
excuse me? park at a bart lot, wait for train, ride through transbay tunnel, exit, wait for muni (every 20 min)., take slow bus all the way to golden gate park, wait for connection (every 20 min), take bus to bridge... (and then do everything in reverse)
vs. drive freeway straight into the city at 65mph (after rush hour). exit octavia, take franklin (30mph timed lights) to lombard, and then up to the bridge.
i think 90 minutes saved is actually. pretty conservative.
don%26#39;t get me wrong, i take muni to work, and i think many would find it convenient to get around downtown, to the wharf, chinatown, etc. but to take it across town, with connections, is a very slooooow trip that i wouldn%26#39;t recommend to anyone except perhaps homeless people who don%26#39;t have a dime or seniors who have plenty of time to kill.
I vaguely remember getting a Golden Gate transit bus back from the toll plaza to the city.
Since the Muni bus route is not direct is it possible for visitors to take a Golden Gate bus from city centre to bridge and back?
Also for visitors without a car,is it still possible to take a ferry to Sausalito then return by bus across the bridge?
Ken.
