What to do in Bakersfield?

I am 21 and I am planning on moving into Bakersfield with a friend soon. I am from Santa Barbara and like to have fun. What is there to do here? Is it really just houses and shopping? Are there any clubs or fun bars/hangouts? I really don%26#39;t want to be bored on the weekends.

Dont worry--you wont be bored on the weekends. You%26#39;ll be bored on the weekdays too!

I imagine going from Santa Barbara to Bakersfield will be like going from the Ritz Carlton to Motel 6--no offense to any Bakersfieldians here.

Great! Well tell me this, how far will I have to drive to have ';fun';?

RPM, not too long ago someone was asking about Bakersfield and raised a whole lot of interesting replies, look down the Bakersfield forum a couple of months back for something like 40 posts. This will give you a whole lot of ideas.

You aren%26#39;t in a bad spot to start many getaways.

you%26#39;re probably a minimum of 2 hours away from fun.

So does the lack of ';fun'; in the area tend to create extra ';other'; recreation such as drugs? I would only assume so.

that would be a big fat YES

Oh well then I could have fun after all!.....=) But what is this about a cough that people get? I am mainly moving because my friend wants me to and the rent is REALLY cheap so all I have to do is find a job basically. On top of that I kind of want something different from where I am at because I grew up in Santa Barbara and it is too crouwded, and this sounds different, I just hope not too different. I will be visiting for the first time this weekend though, any recommendations?

Our air quality is rather poor because we are in a valley and smog tends to settle here. As a result, there is a higher rate of people with breathing problems here.

I%26#39;m far away from 21, so I don%26#39;t know how much I can advise you on what to do for fun. I know there are a lot of bars in the downtown area that are popular. We have some pretty good local bands.

This place lists some of the events going on around town. theblackboardfreepress.com/200603/index.html

You live in a resort town at the beach with clean air and lots of action, and you are moving to Bakersfield?

If cheap rent is your reason, why not settle in Oildale, next door to Bakersfield. Trout%26#39;s bar is suppose to be the local bar action, and I think rentals start at about $200 per month. I am joking - stay in Santa Barbara and pony up the big bucks for rent.

if you are 21 and moving to Bakersfield from Santa Barbara, like many people who move here to Maui from fast city lives, they get bored and move away, or they can%26#39;t get used to the ';slow pace'; of life.

I%26#39;d say find a medium. If you are used to being near beaches, and little faster life style, I%26#39;d say, Bakersfield will never do.
