Wine excursion

I posted under Sonoma but when I saw all of the specific areas, I thought it might help to put my most on this thread as well.Hi,

I am visiting my girlfriend this summer and based on many of the suggestions on posts, this is a plan I have come up with. Of course I don%26#39;t know how many winerys we can visit in a day but we have done this before and made it to up to seven, including tastings. And we didn%26#39;t feel rushed, we just had a plan! I would appreciate suggestions of places we shouldn%26#39;t miss etc. Is Chateau Sovereign pretty out of the way? I have heard it is really beautiful. BTW, we like all varietals of wine. I am into Sav Blanc right now so I would like to pick up a few of those. Also a big zin lover.

Wine excursion

bgmama - I have knowledge on just a few of your points. Others will cover most of your agenda.

Chateau Souverain is located two intersections north of BW Dry Creek Inn, on Independence Lane. That%26#39;s about 5 minutes north on Hwy 101. Give us a trip report on it. Francis Coppola owns it now, and is converting it to his own use.

Your best bet for wines at reasonable prices are a short way between BW Dry Creek Inn and downtown, called Tip Top (something - Liquor, or Wine Shop?).

With your interest in Zinfandel, you are so close to a good tasting room, Seghesio, on Grove Street, between Dry Creek Road and W Grant Street. Their wines are available at most discount wine shops.

Rosenblum - Great tasting room. Most of their wines can be found at discount wine shops much more reasonably priced. But not the ';port';. You must taste it!

After Rosenblum, consider the Center Street Cafe for lunch. It%26#39;s good, and most reasonable.

Rochioli has absolutely the best sauvignon blanc! But it is priced in the mid twenties. Usually only available at the winery.

You may find that Nicholson Winery will be a longer stay than you intended. It is that good! Chardonnay, pinot noir, and several syrahs. Ask for a tour of down stairs.

Don%26#39;t forget to take bread with you when tasting. If you do not spit, you need it to soak up the wine.

Enjoy!

Wine excursion

Chateau Souveraign has been bought by Frances Ford Coppola, effective March 1. It%26#39;s open for business and is still very beautiful. If you have an opportunity to eat at the cafe, do it!

You%26#39;ve got a lot of wineries there. I don%26#39;t know about you, but after 4 or 5, my taste buds start to get dull and I get wined out.

We were there last week and it seemed that Ravenous was closed. Haven%26#39;t been able to ferret the facts out there yet.

Have you been to www.wineroad.com?

Yes, I have been to pretty much every website and then gone to the individual winery websites that perk my interest.

You are right about the taste buds I am sure but we can always just look at the beautiful setting and gift shop, etc.

Thanks for the info.
