I%26#39;m staying at the Chancellor in SF and driving to New york New york in las vegas.(via yosemite and death valley)
I wont be using the car in SF and i%26#39;m driving up to SF fromLA in a seperate rental which I%26#39;m dropping off in SF downtown four days before we leave for vegas.
If I pick up the car downtown in O%26#39; farrell st and drop off at the mgm it will be 300 dollars more expensive than if I go to the airport at SF to collect the car and droppoff at the airport(mccarrran?) in las vegas.
what would be the likely costs/hassle involved in doing this as i will have to arrange transport to and from the respective airports.from the hotels
Its only me and my 18yr old son so we are fairly flexible
What would you do??
Avoiding one way fees is it worth it? what would you do
I have several times dropped off the rental car at SFO, and taken the shuttle to my hotel in San Francisco. To save expenses, you may leave your party at your hotel, take the shuttle - alone - to the airport, and drive back into the city to pick them up. I do not know what the airport shuttle prices are currently. You have to do the math (and time line) to see if this works for you. The benefit of leaving your party at the hotel is baggage handling. It is a royal pain carting the luggage on the airport shuttle train to the rental facility!
The hassle is navigating the shuttle train from the airport to the car rental facility. Not the clearest of instructions. With luggage, don%26#39;t do it! More than once, I waited in line at the rental agency to find out that I could have gone directly to the garage area. It seems that the truth changes along the way.
Definitely, rent at the airport!

You can get to SFO via BART for around $6 each, or a shuttle for about $15 each.
Take the free air-train to the rental car building.
When you get to Vegas, drive to the airport, take a cab to the MGM for under $20
Net savings over $200. Time lost, about an hour or so.
Deposit saved money in slot machines.
Net result--you%26#39;ve come out even. :-)
many thanks
i%26#39;ll save the dosh and do the legwork!!
