Hello
I am trying to figure out the name of a great Italian restaurant in North Beach that I ate at. All I remember is that there were empty wine bottles hanging from the wall and ceiling and the restaurant was surrounded by a bunch of other Italian restaurants.
Also, searching for the name of an Indian restaurant that was recommended to me. It is in the upper Haight. It might be all vegetarian, but not sure on that.
Thanks much for any help.
Mystery restaurants in North Beach %26amp; Haight?????
:-) I%26#39;m afraid that could describe a lot of places in North Beach! If you see the name, will you remember it? How about doing a yahoo yellow pages search on Italian restaurants in SF and see if the name rings a bell?

I bet the Thai place was Thep Phanom or something like that. Rachael Ray went there on her tasty travels show when she was in SF.
could the italian restaurant be the stinking rose?
The Indian one is likely the New Ganges--vegetarian

I don%26#39;t think the poser said anything about Thai places....
Regarding your Italian inquiry first - that describes about half the Italian places in North Beach. If you were thinking of the Gold Spike, sorry, it%26#39;s closed. But there are a few places on Green Street that fit what you are talking about. Family style, crowded with old school memorabilia. I would poke my head into a couple to see if they look familiar.
As to your Indian place, I think you must be talking about lower Haight, which has become home to a number of good Indian joints. I think the oldest, and the one I can recommend, is Naan and Curry. It%26#39;s not strictly vegetarian, but it has an extensive vegetarian menu.
