Try either the Orchid Suites Hotel or the Hollywood Celebrity Hotel -- both in Hollywood, 2 blocks from the city centre (Hollywood Bl and Highland Ave).
Both of these hotels are former apartment buildings. All the ';rooms'; have kitchens and there are studio, 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom versions.
Check them out at:

Good luck!

We try to stay at Residence Inn by Marriott when travelling around the US. They are reliably clean and pleasant, and have apartment-like accomodations, up to two bedrooms, and include a full kitchen. Reasonably priced for the quality of the accomodations. Also includes a free breakfast served in the lobby area, which can be carried to your suite for sleepyhead kids. In LA, there is one located in West Los Angeles in a pleasant location; on the website it is listed as the ';beverly hills'; Res. Inn, despite the fact that it is near, but not in, Beverly Hills. It is a 15 minute drive, approximately, to the beach in Santa Monica; a bit further to Hollywood. 5 minutes to Beverly Hills. Someone on tripadvisor also recommends the Residence Inn in Manhattan Beach, another great area. I assume you have a car, as both of these locations are pleasant enough but not in the thick of things; maybe a ten minute drive to things you will want to see, or walking districts with restaurants. The BH location does not have a pool, if that is a requirement.
The previous poster recommended locations in Hollywood. I know our local experts recommend Hollywood as a base, but... personally... I really don%26#39;t like it and wouldn%26#39;t recommend it as a base with kids. It has improved but much of Hollywood is still grungy in my opinion, and the ';sights'; you want to see in Hollywood can be seen in a few hours (or a few minutes, depending on your tastes). But to each his/her own...
