We are planning a trip to California in June and want to see as much as possible so are looking at a pretty hectic schedule starting in San Francisco and ending in LA. We really want to do this itinery but are not sure if this is really feasible, especially the long drives through the mountains and desert.
SF-%26amp;gt; Yosemite-%26amp;gt; Mammoth -%26amp;gt; Las Vegas -%26amp;gt; Grand Canyon -%26amp;gt; Palm Springs-%26amp;gt; San Diego- %26amp;gt; LA
Anyone done something similar, or got any tips?
Whats the driving like- scenic? hot? too long?
Cheers
Is this drive too much? How long will you be in California - that will make a big difference on how doable the itinerary is. If you give it enough time in each place to relax and explore - then yes - it is doable. The driving between SF / Yosemite / Mammoth is very scenic and pretty. Nevada is almost all desert so can become very monotoneous after a while.
Is this drive too much?I tis doable depending on the amount of time you hav ehere. FYI There is an internal US airlines called Southwest Airlines that has inexpensive flights from LA or SanDiego or Oakland(near Sanfrancisco ) to Las Vegas which might save some time. It does not come up on flight search engines. You have to go to their own web site.
I would say that if you have at least 2 weeks here you shoud be fine. If you don%26#39;t have reservations in Yosemite you need to make them NOW!!!
Also Tioga Pass through Yosemite will not be open until later in June. If your trip is early June you might not be able to use Tioga Pass depending on how the plowing goes.
It%26#39;s doable, but you will spend your entire trip in the car.
I would leave out Grand Canyon and Las Vegas - those are full days of driving, so it%26#39;s 4 days of driving in your vacation. I hear Tioga is opening the 26th of June.
26th... arg we will probably be wanting to drive through on the 25th. Though looking at the website they have no official opening date yet.
I hadn%26#39;t really thought about that- assumed spring was March, April- to me the end of june is well and truly summer. Is there still snow about in June then?
