How to return to Santa Monica after a concert at the Greet...

Hi out there,

I would be delighted if someone would hint me about this:

I will be attending a Rock concert at the Greek Theater in mid June, but I decided to stay the night in Santa Monica.

My question now is: HOW TO RETURN TO SANTA MONICA AFTER THE EVENT? (it begins at 6:30 pm, so I suppose it will be over at about 8:30 pm or 9).

Is there any cab stop nearby?. Are there cabs available running up and down the surrounding streets?, are there hotels within walking distance where I could get / call a cab?.

Is there a good public transport connection to fit my needs?

Thanks a lot!

A cab would be very expensive - somewhere around $60 - but it%26#39;s really your only choice. Are you taking a cab there? If so, ask the driver to be there at 10:00 (all concerts there end at 10, no later, because of noise laws). Or, you have to call a cab company ahead of time to pick you up at an arranged time. You won%26#39;t find cabs there.

Public transportation could take hours - there are no ';surrounding streets';. I checked mta.net and found no buses that can take you from the Greek to Wilshire and Ocean Ave (I don%26#39;t know where you%26#39;re going in SM, so I chose that intersection)

I think you%26#39;re right about Wilshire %26amp; Ocean Avenue, because I will stay at the FAIRMONT MIRAMAR. I%26#39;m a music journalist, and what I will be doing is press coverage for the BLACK CROWES concert that will be held at the Greek on June 14th.

60$ will not be an issue, as the magazine will cover that cost.

One more thing: I will arrive 13th June at 3:00 pm and leave 15th at 17:50h. As you see it will be pretty brief, but could you recommend me an ';Essential LA'; (visitor spots) for those days during the spare time

Thanks a lot

It gets very crowded and congested in front of the Greek after the show. I would make arrangements to meet the cab on a side street or a few blocks away from the theatre. The other possibility is to walk down Highland Avenue to Franklin Avenue -- to the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel and pick up a cab there.

(That is probably the easiest thing to do. It will take you maybe 10-12 minutes to walk there).

The other option is to stay at the Renaissance (the only 5-star hotel in Hollywood and a lot cheaper and nicer than the Miramar). The Hollywood Music Scene is hot right now. There are tons of clubs within a few blocks of the Renaissance.

Good luck!

Call the various cab companies, but my hunch would be the congestion may deter cabs from servicing the area. I once attended a concert thinking I could call a cab afterwards and I was very mistaken. My date was not too happy. Definitely make arrangements with the cab company well before the event. I%26#39;d negotiate a flat rate, too. The quickest route would probably be Los Feliz Blvd to the 5 south to the 110 south to downtown to the 10 west to Santa Monica. It ain%26#39;t going to be cheap.

You really might want to consider staying in Hollywood, West Hollywood or even downtown.

HTH.

HopSkipJump, I think you%26#39;re confusing the Greek with the Hollywood Bowl.

I love the Fairmont, think it%26#39;s a fantastic hotel. If your company is paying, then hire a car for the night. I always see limos and town cars lined up awaiting their clients. I don%26#39;t remember seeing taxis.

Yes, HopSkip gave you directions for the Bowl, not the Greek.

Thanks a lot everyone!, you%26#39;ve been really helpful and wonderful!.

Yes. I considered West Hollywood rather than Hollywood, because I heard that Hollywood is a bit seedy and that it can get a bit dodgy at night (I just heard it, I don%26#39;t know if it%26#39;s true or not). Could you help me that?. Is the Renaissance in a good area to go walking at night from the GREEK?.

And what about the ESSENTIAL SPOTS to see in Los Angeles (remember I will be there for two days, from 13th June to 15th. I will arrive on the 13th at 3:00 pm and I will leave the 15th at 5:50 pm).

Again, thanks a lot!, you guys are great!

You can%26#39;t walk from the Greek to the Renaissance. You%26#39;ll have the same problem there, as you would in Santa Monica - you%26#39;ll need to hire a car.

Hollywood is not seedy or dangerous, but if you%26#39;re thinking of moving hotels, then I would suggest one of the hotels on Sunset Blvd, in West Hollywood. Look into the Standard, Grafton, Mondrian, even Sunset Marquis. However, I do love the Fairmont and you%26#39;ll love Santa Monica.

I would love to hire a car, but I do not drive. I do not have driving license. I know it sounds a bit strange for you americans, but here in Europe is quite usual to not drive, because streets are very pedestrian-friendly and public transport is so quickly, efficient and reliable.

That is why I am considering a cab.

Thanks a lot again!!

Oh!, by the way, what about the ';must-see%26#39;s'; in LA for my so short two-day stay?.

Cheers!!! ;-)

Not hire a car to drive, we call those rental cars. I mean, you have to hire a car and driver. They%26#39;re called Town Cars or Limos.
