isn%26#39;t Scala%26#39;s a French restaurant?
French restaurant suggestions...
I%26#39;m not sure exactly which theater you%26#39;ll be attending, but I assume it%26#39;s in Downtown. Here%26#39;s a couple of suggestions in the Downtown area:
Hyde Street Bistro (I%26#39;ve eaten here once, and it was a great meal.)

Jeanne D%26#39;arc (Really close to the theaters on Geary Street and right next to Powell Street; still near the top of my list of places to try.)

Scala%26#39;s is Italian (Northern Italian)
I don%26#39;t know about a filet, but Cafe Claude is a great little place.
There is also Plouf and Cafe Bastille on Belden Place
Plouf is big on mussels. Cafe Claude is a charming cafe. Here%26#39;s one more for consideration:
Le Charm is off the beaten path a bit, but not far -- down 5th Street, two blocks-plus from the Powell Street turnaround. And they have milet mignon.
An friend who was a bit of a Francophile loved this unpretentious little place.

Cafe De La Presse is another I%26#39;ll add to the list.
Saks, I haven%26#39;t been to Cafe De La Presse since they remodelled the place, how has it changed (food and service)?
I cant believe Fleur de Lys hasn%26#39;t been mentioned yet .

Cafe de la Presse wasn%26#39;t just remodelled. Its old owner retired and a new owner came in with new everything. Actually, the new owner is the same owner as owns Aqua, Pisces and the C%26amp;L Steak House.
Here%26#39;s a review:

Also one for Le Central, not far away in SF%26#39;s ';French Quarter';:

Thanks for all the suggestions- wow, there is alot to choose from...
We are going to the Post Street Theatre to see the Putnam County Spelling Bee- our teenage son will be with us, and he has had French class, so I thought it would be nice to have a night with a good dinner and the show. We enjoy a restaurant with good atmosphere, ambiance, and food!!
All the restaurants mentioned (except for Scala%26#39;s) do good French food, but I%26#39;m not sure they are the best places to find a filet mignon; that%26#39;s more a steakhouse or hotel-restaurant specialty.
