Yamashiro vs. The Lobster for a special L.A. dinner??

Where would YOU take an out-of-towner for a special L.A. experience dinner?

I am considering Yamashiro and The Lobster, because I heard both places have killer views, good food and a decent crowd.

What do you think?

Cheers,

Bet

Yamashiro vs. The Lobster for a special L.A. dinner??

Hi,

Even though I am partial to Japanese food (and 1/2 Japanese), %26amp; live in the vicinity of Yamashiro, I honestly would say the Lobster over Yamashiro. The menu is excellent, with one of the best wine lists I%26#39;ve seen, you can pretty much see the view even if you don%26#39;t have a window table, and you can walk around the pier after dinner, or head on over to the 3rd Street Promenade. Or, you could do both...

Have a great dinner!

LA,

Thanks for your response! Okay, The Lobster it is!

Also, which Japanese restaurants do you like (for future dinners)?

I agree - The Lobster. Stunning view, great room.

for Japanese food - there are choices all over LA. Sawtelle Kitchen, Matsuhitsu, Nobu, Nagao....

Hi,

For really high-end quality (but expensive), Matsuhisa or Nobu Malibu. Otherwise, there are a multitude of good Japanese restaurants all over L.A. Some of the best sushi bars are in Gardena, because there are a lot of Japanese Americans that live in Gardena and Torrance, but there are definitely some good restaurants in the W. LA area around Sawtelle, as there%26#39;s a small enclave of Japanese Americans who live in that area also. My husband %26amp; I regularly go to a little restaurant in Toluca Lake called Nippon, that we really like...

:)

I also heard good things about this place on Melrose (near where I live) run by two Japanese female sushi chefs. I think it%26#39;s called AZUMI or AZUMA?

Anyone been?

Just noticed my typo on Matsuhisa :)

You might also consider investigating Little Tokyo for Japanese restaurants. Alas, I know nothing about Japanese food, so I can%26#39;t make any suggestions.

HTH.

While I%26#39;m not an expert, I do go ot Tokyo for work a fair amount and sushi is practically one of my four main food groups. Matsuhisa is amazing and for casual but really excellent sushi, I recommend Hana Grill on S. Beverly Drive in Beverly Hills. and Yabu on La Cienega. Hana Grill always has the freshest Toro.

Lobster by far, but it%26#39;s noisy as hell. For a more refined feel, with a stunning ocean view, go to Ocranfront at Casa Del Mar (just down the street from The Lobster; alos has great adjoining bar scene.

Another vote for Lobster!
