what is the best way to get there from Anaheim? We will not be driving as driving on the other side of the road scares me.........Hubby would like to give it a go but I want a stress free holiday!
if by taxi does anyone know about how much? or can we go by the bus as by looking on the net it is not too far from Anaheim.
thanks
South Coast Plaza

Driving is not that hard on the other side of the road - Really!!!
Even I did it and I%26#39;m the MUM!!!!
You should consider the factory outlets ... Carlsbad and Citadel outlets are not that far from Disney / Anaheim area - you just have to get on the I-5 highway north or south.
South Coast Plaza is a main stream shopping mall with lots of really expensive and all the majors. We did have a great time - make sure you go past Abbercrombie and Fitch - the day we did they had 3 really cute male models standing in the front of the shop with just boxers and jeans on - really attractions - even the kids had a laugh. This store is really out there in regards to promotions and marketing hey!!
You must also try the Krispy Kreme donuts they are sooooooo nice. The closest one to Anaheim is down Harbor Blvd at the Block at Orange shopping centre - they are on the outer part of the shopping mall. They are the best donuts I have ever had - not like donut king !!
Also, a hamburger chain called ';In and Out Burger'; make really nice burgers not like McD%26#39;s or HJ%26#39;s - fresh mince,oh and the chips are hand made (not frozen) and nor is the mince!! Everything is made fresh!!
How long are you going for?? and where are you going?
We did a 4 week trip in November 2005!! Had a great time!
hi Chookie
we are going over in November for 13 nights then onto Las Vegas for 6 nights (yee ha) as of course we have no pokies over here then onto Hawaii and then 4 nights in Sydney and then back to our very small town of 12000 people and only McD%26#39;s and Chicken Treat here so our teenagers are really looking forward to the yummy food shops over there and the shops as when the shops get something new in everyone is wearing the same clothes so we really don%26#39;t buy alot of clothing from here........hence why I don%26#39;t want my hubby to drive.......have driven in Sydney and Perth (me as well) but we have no traffic lights here and not alot of traffic on the road
so I think going over to LA and the volume of the traffic is going to be mind boggling to us as well as this wife cannot read maps and can get lost anywhere she goes so not much help to hubby when he is driving and we are somewhere new
we are all saving hard and really looking forward to our trip of our lifetime with the kids (15 and 17)
thankyou Darkbeer
just went to the site and followed your directions and Bingo
had been to the site to research the mall but hadn%26#39;t found that part of it and probably wouldn%26#39;t have if you hadn%26#39;t told us about it
thanks for that

hi again .. great trip itinerary ... we did 10 nights Anaheim/DL, 1 night Las Vegas, 1 night somewhere between LV and the coast, 5 nights San Francisco, 1 night LA, 5 nights Hawaii - back to Brisbane... almost 4 weeks in total and had a great time.
If you ask the concierge at the hotel you R staying in they can contact drivers who will take you wherever you want to go. For example we went from our hotel in Anaheim to South Coast Plaza and a couple of other places and return for $80 US round trip. The driver dropped us off at SC Place and picked us up in the afternoon and then we went on a little sightseeing trip.
Honestly, the outlet shopping malls are great and have great bargains compared to the prices you pay for some labels here in Australia. In fact you can buy some of the labels in Macy%26#39;s and other department stores as well, but they factory outlets are cheaper (last seasons stock) but what would we know that%26#39;s what we get in Australia anyway (if you live in the big smoke that is - please don%26#39;t be offended).
So if you go to Carlsbad or Citadel which are close to DL - there is a diner at both of these outlet centres called ';Ruby%26#39;s'; - it had really great food as well!
And when in Disney - California Adventure park - you%26#39;ve got to try the %26#39;corn dogs%26#39; they are like dagwood dogs or pluto pups but much bigger!! They are near the kids rollercoaster before you get to McDonalds inside California Adventure Park.
You know you get hire cars with navigational systems in them that tell you were to turn etc - but I must admit it is quite different driving on the other side of the road - I kept driving over the cats eyes, bump bump bump bump!!! and the freeway crossovers (Junctions or JCT they are called) are truly amazing.
What hotels R U staying at?
If you want to ask me any ??? just fire away... Cheers Chookie
HI CHOOKIE! Just saw your remark on the carhire and thought I%26#39;d get your most recent post to say hello! Germany was pure pleasure and our car%26#39;s GPS NAVI system was SO helpful. I%26#39;ll never go without it again. No stressful navigating at all. Hope the business is doing well. Fond regards Katsie
Dear sp18z Don%26#39;t forget about Knotts Berry Farm. Your kids will love the rides. It is not so expensive and I could not get my husband and teenager off the Accelerator! It is the most scary ride I have ever seen! The malls at Carlsbad were more of what I was looking for than the ones closest to Disney. There is also a BIG outlet shopping area. Lovely place. I want to stay over there if we go again. Bavarian influence in the buildings. Charming.
Hi Chookie and Katsie
we are staying at the Anaheim Plaza Hotel.......we have booked a family room which is 2 rooms connected by a door.........does have a very mixed review though which our son is following but it is only basically to sleep as we see the shops are open late every night and we also have got the Qantas 14 day Disney Pass so can go there anytime we like so don%26#39;t think we will be seeing much of the room. We are going to Knotts Berry Farm and thinking of just getting a taxi there as it is supposedly only 4 miles from the hotel!. Also Hubby and Son want to go to Six Flags so that will be a tour
Did you go to Universal Studio........guessing that will have to be another tour
Beleive me any shops we see will be exciting for us. We do have K Mart and a country Target here but as I said everyone wears the same clothes so will be packing very lightly.........we have checked the weather and in November it sounds like it could get a bit cool at night. We are very hot where we are from. We have no winter clothes at all so will have to get a couple of jumpers etc
Hubby is looking at maybe driving in Hawaii so will wait and see on that one
what did you think of Las Vegas?
any other hints and ideas will be greatfully recieved
HI! We found it best to go early on weekdays to Disney, otherwise you line up forever. We did go to Universal. The thing we most enjoyed was Waterworld where actors from CSI, The OC, etc took part! Exciting! My 10 yr old loved it because he just LOVES spongebob. If you are going for 14 days it may be worth a day outing. We liked it. Walmart in Euklid street has cheaper Tshirts and memorabilia, but not as much variety as Disney of course. But T%26#39;s were $6 compared to $20 inside the park. Nice shops around it too. Kmart in anaheim is like Crazy Clarkes back home I think., not the same. Target is similar, but different too. Not as much variety clotheswise as our Target here had. loved their books and DVD%26#39;s though. Wish I had known beforehand that the DVD%26#39;s would play on our DVDplayer! Another daytrip for you might be to San Diego Zoo or Seaworld? We gave Vegas a miss because I am prudish, and the Vegas forum of Tripadvisor really put me off.( snipish contributors) Might go later when my 10 yr old is MUCH older. We also enjoyed seeing episodes of our favorite Tv shows (NCIS, Lost) in advance. Loved the USA, greatly enjoyed our trip and would love to go again!
Katsie
thanks for that and will make it to the Walmart as I need to buy t shirts etc for neice and nephews who all live in NZ so of course have to be posted so if we can get them a bit cheaper all the better. We are taking down notes and hints off this site so hopefully will be well prepared for it
yes .........the Las Vegas Trip site is different to this one.........a bit of a shock when i first went to it and not too sure of what sights we will see up the strip but as our 2 will be 15 and 17 hopefully they will look past all that..........there is alot of things for the kids to do and see there........our son has researched it all on the net so it is
disappointing to hear that the kids are not welcome over there
what month did you go over?
