I have read several negative reviews of this park on this forum. I am planning on visiting the park in late May while on vacation in San Diego. I have boys ages 12 and 8 that would like it I think. Is it maintained as far as atmosphere?? Will there be lots of school field trips around the 29th of May?? What about Mrs. Knotts Chicken Dinner?? Is it worth a visit?? How much is it for the chicken dinner?? THanks for any help you can offer. I have memories from 20 years ago and would like to visit again, but not waste my time.
Anyone visit Knotts Berry Farm recently??
The park is aging a bit - but still a lot of fun. For my 8 year old, he likes it as he can go on most of the rides there and they are fun, slightly thrilling but not overkill. Many people compare it to Disneyland or Magic Mountain which is not a fair comparison as Disneyland is a park completely different than anything else and Magic Mountain is all about hte rollercoasters (most of which my son is not tall enough to ride).
Knott%26#39;s is also less expensive than the other two and smaller and tends to have less crowds. May 29th is a legal holiday and schools and work will be closed (Memorial Day Weekend) so it could crowded.
Anyone visit Knotts Berry Farm recently??
THanks for your input. There have been lots of negative comments on the park on this site and I was getting ready to cancel my plans for this park. I just hoped it wasnt dirty or have rides not manned, etc. or otherwise neglected as some seem to have experienced in the recent past. I didnt know if they might be too critical. How long a drive from San Diego is it to Knotts?? In light of Memorial Day weekend, we might just plan on going the Tuesday afterward. The hours are shorter, but will be less crowded and easier to take in all the rides. Any other suggestions for having a great day in the park??
I was at Knott%26#39;s about 3 or 4 years ago and my kids all liked it. They have some coasters, bumper cars and Camp Snoopy, an area geared towards smaller kids. We ate at the restaurant and the fried chicken was really good. (Ask your server about the portions. When we ate there the portions were huge and we ended up with way too much food).
Please note there are a few theme dinnershow places nearby. There is a Midevil Times and a Pirate Adventure show. I have not seen either one but I did go 2x to the now defunct Wild Bill%26#39;s Wild West Show. The food was just so-so but I my kids really liked it. Might be worth at least looking into.
Please note that we had a good time at Knott%26#39;s and I%26#39;m pretty sure you will too. However if I had to choose between Knott%26#39;s %26amp; Disneyland I would go to DL everytime.
I am encouraged by hearing your points of view. After reading some of the previous posts, it was disconcerting. We have been to Disney World several times in Fla, so are not interested in Disneyland since they are so similar. My boys are the age to ride coasters and more daring rides. We didnt want to drive as far as Six Flags and also go to Atlanta here for that. So glad to find that we should have fun at Knotts. Thanks for your posts. Does anyone have an idea how long it will take to drive up from Pacific Beach in San Diego?? Should we take I5??
I am a Knott%26#39;s fan, and was at the park last week.

They have been doing a lot of work fixing up the place, and not sure why the negative reviews.
The drive from San Diego, just take I-5 North to the 91 West, and then get off at Knott%26#39;s Ave. (In San Clemente, get into the Carpool lane, and follow that to the special 91 west carpool exit, then get over as soon as possible. (You cannot reach the Beach Blvd exit from the Carpool lane). Once you get off the freeway, follow the signs.
The drive is about 2 hours, maybe a bit less.
The Chicken Dinner is about $15 including dessert for adults, and comes with all the fixin%26#39;s, a LOT of food.
And there is a lot more to do than just the roller coasters, though they have plenty of those, the Ghost Town are has a lot of shops, plus there are many shows offered daily.
I actually prefer Knott%26#39;s to Disney%26#39;s California Adventure, and recommend you visit.
Darkbeer, I loved your website and viewed all the Knotts pictures. You are quite the photographer. That is what I needed to see. I am pretty sure we will be going. I am going to get in touch with Knotts to get construction updates before we go. Based on your pictures, there is lots going on. I want to be sure that certain rides will not be shut down during the time of our visit. Thanks again for all your advice.
The Best Hamburger at a Theme Park - Knott%26#39;s Berry Farm!
While it has been open for 3 weeks now, Lisa and I had a chance to try the new Johnny Rockets inside the park.
EXCELLENT!!!!
This is the largest Johnny Rockets in the world, and if you check out the kitchen, they actually have two complete Johnny Rockets kitchen setups, including the fountain drinks/shakes.
During spring break, they had folks waiting due to all 260+ seats being filled.
They only allow Dine-in customers, but all the food is cooked to order (well, the shakes are made from scratch and include real ice cream, and fresh whipped cream, they don%26#39;t cook those..... ;)
And they don%26#39;t just have Hamburgers and shakes, but many sandwiches and other treats.
Here is the menu...

One thing to note, Johnny Rockets normally serves Coke, but the arrangement with Cedar Fair, L.P. allows them to serve Pepsi, since they have a contract with Pepsi.
Here is a Press Release....

Just topping to see if anyone can tell me what to expect with regards to weather, crowds, etc if we plan on coming to Knotts on Memorial Day. We were planning on coming that Thurs, but may need to change our plans. An email to the company resulted in a confirmation of school groups all week, so just wondering if Memorial Day would be any worse crowdwise since the school kids will be there all week anyway. Anyone been there recently to give a construction update?? Thanks for any info.
