best steakhouse with a view... and tofu?!?

I usually don%26#39;t plan restaurants, in spite of the OCD planning issue some of ya%26#39;ll might have noticed, BUT, hubby asked me to check out some places to grab a hunk of primo meat. Three of the four of us love a good steak, so it would be nice find a really great restaurant...preferably not a chain, we can eat at Morton%26#39;s and Ruth%26#39;s Chris and whatnot at home. A place with a view would be an added bonus. We%26#39;re going to be making most of our meals in the hotel, so this will be one of our few ';splurge'; meals, so it doesn%26#39;t have to be a budget place, although they do need to allow well mannered preteens. One last caveat...our oldest son is a strict vegetarian. I was kidding about the tofu, but it would be nice if they had some vegetarian options (decent pasta, salads, taters, etc.). It%26#39;s unusual for places not to have some choices, but I figured I%26#39;d mention it just the same - in California, maybe he%26#39;ll get lucky and they%26#39;ll have something really good. :) Thanks!

A couple of places that come to mind are Lou %26amp; Mickey%26#39;s, they have a pretty good selection of veggie-friendly dishes and have great seafood in addition to their steaks. Bonus is the location right across from the Petco baseball park in case you%26#39;ve got some baseball fans in the group. Another idea also in the Gaslamp is the Gaslamp Strip Club - not what is sounds like ;) though the clientele is usually a little older/club-scene type. The veggie choices are more limited, but you grill up your own food and the atmosphere can be pretty fun. Oh yes, one other place is World Famous - this one%26#39;s on the boardwalk in the Pacific Beach/Mission Beach area - they have great food and with the boardwalk locataion, you have great views and interesting people-watching too :)

I had to read a bund of menus but I think I found it!! Island Prime one of the cohn rest. you can see menu at www.cohnrestaurants.com

It is NOT a chai n but it%26#39;s one family that has many different reaturants here . Each one has a different theme and menu and chef. this one not only has lots of choices of steacks but salads, side dishes of vegetables., (don%26#39;t know if you rveggie boy eats cheese) and cheese based dishes like fancy mac and cheese etc. It also has a lovely view . Try reading the menu.

Wow! I really am having trouble with my typing--that%26#39;s a ';bunch ';of menus. Anyway I just wanted you to know that I have a ';veggie boy'; too, since high school.. He didn%26#39;t eat most cheese either but he did eat eggs. Now at the ripe old age of 30 s omething he has decided that he

can eat fish but NOT seafood(like lobster). Hope you enjoy your much thought out trip!!! I hope you r family appreciates the amount of work you have done.

i vote for Island Prime as well (I%26#39;m in the Debra Scott Fan Club after all). If you have really nice weather go to the C-Level, the sister restaurant and sit outside over the bay staring at Coronado and downtown. This is a million dollar view!

The Island Prime menu is available on the deck along with the C-Level menu. The C-Level menu has a steak and french fries entree that is excellent!

The good news is taht there are alot of veggie people in San Diego. Most every restaurant can respond particularly if you son is a little flexible with his requests.

Cool... Island Prime sounds like exactly what we%26#39;re looking for!!

My son will eat eggs and dairy, so it%26#39;s actually quite easy to feed him in most restaurants. I just feel a little guilty making him watch us eat steak. Bless his heart, he%26#39;s a good sport about it though! He never tries to make us feel guilty. He won%26#39;t touch anything that ever had eyes though (his words) and I like to respect his choices. I%26#39;m just happy when I remember to remind him to take his vitamins.

Boy... are we getting excited about this trip!! :) The kids are starting the countdown.

Peohe%26#39;s in Coronado would be a great choice, too - right on the water with a view of downtown across San Diego Bay, nice menu, etc... I think you%26#39;d enjoy it.

Island Prime and Peohe%26#39;s are both open for lunch, so we might do two nice lunches out instead of one dinner. Both places sound really yummy and have lots of good veggy options. Not to mention if we go during the day, it will be light out and we can actually see the pretty views. Now the question is where to fit it in to our itinerary??? Yikes! :)

I also vote for Island Prime. Great view and more steakhouse choices than Pheoe%26#39;s.

BEST steakhouse in town is Donovan%26#39;s. Nice upscale clubby wood paneled wall decor, but no view.

Also many restaurants will accomodate vegetarians with off menu choices. Just ask and they will usually put together a bigger salad , steamed/grilled/sauteed veggie platter, etc.

How is George%26#39;s at the Cove in La Jolla? Good views?
