Plowing Update
May 17
Tioga Road
The crew was able to plow through avalanche zone 9 today. They are now 21.1 miles in from Crane Flat
Glacier Point Road
Today, they made it to Washburn Point. The goal of the crew is to make it to Glacier Point sometime late tomorrow. They will now have to go back and widen the road, do ditching, pot hole repair, and remove one big boulder that is in the road. The road may open to the public with limited services on May 26.

Glacier Point may open May 26thThanks for staying on top of this! Good news for a lot of people who have been anxiously waiting to make plans . Of course, trails around Glacier Point Road may still be snowy and soggy so checking on arrival will assure hikers they can go off road safely.
Glacier Point may open May 26thBetter news: as of May 18 (from the helpful link provided by Bluedog),
Glacier Point:
They have reached Glacier Point. They are now in the progress of cleaning the parking lots, patching potholes, removing a large boulder from the road, ditching, and sweeping. Forestry crews are also working up on the road. There are quite a few trees that need to be removed along with brushing operations. The road will be open to administrative traffic Monday and barring any problems, should be open to the public by some time late next week.
Wise counsel from Juday re: snowy %26amp; soggy trails in the area. We are doing our best to prepare--I have been hounding our local outfitter: ';where are those Yaktrax I ordered?'; Still, I%26#39;m stoked that at least we should be able to drive up there by the time or our arrival 6/11. Interesting--it seems that the average Yosemite visitor doesn%26#39;t even go up there, and thus misses those astounding views.
Can%26#39;t wait!--BD
Thanks for the update brodavefla _ hoping that the trails will be passable from there by our time starting June the 12th.
Actually the first stunning panorama is at Washburn Point just a short distrance before the Glacier Point parking lot as you wind down the narrow road through the trees. Takes your breath away. Going there early in the morning avoids the crowds but for photographs you are shooting into the sun in the east, so the better time for photography is mid to late afternoon.
New moon is Memorial weekend so the night sky from there should be dark and perfect for seeing the stars, but with the full moon over Half Dome on June 11, July 10, August 9 it will be dramatic. The Perseid Meteor Shower is August 12 so the full moon may impact that stunning experience a bit. Other great stargazing locations if you cannot get out on the trail to a backcountry camp are Olmstead Point, Tioga Pass and around Tuolumne Meadows away from the store/campground ie: atop the domes at the west end of the meadows but watch your footing if you scramble up those.
juday _ outstanding points, the kind being a landscape photographer likes to know ... copied and pasted to my trail notes.
Thanks
Yeah, I knew it would be full moon on 6/11--just so happens to be the day we show up there! Wasn%26#39;t sure exactly where the moon would come up but was hoping to find an angle so that it would be right over Half Dome. When you take shots like that, even if Ansel Adams or someone else saw it first, you get a lot of pleasure out of getting the shot nonetheless. Soooo...three weeks from today, we%26#39;ll be in Big Sur after spending three great days in SF, then over to Yose on Sunday. Can%26#39;t wait! BD
I am green with envy, guys! Have a wonderful vacation!
