I%26#39;ve seen a hotel advertisement called Stanyan Park as a place I might want to stay. Can anyone advise if this is a good place or not? I%26#39;m still uncertain if I want to stay in San Francisco during my week trip and just drive daily to different lighthouses to see them. I do want to see those places in San Francisco that have been suggested, so would staying in one place and traveling to the lighthouses be a wise move or should I travel and stay in different places each day I%26#39;m there. I%26#39;m not one to sit for long times on the beach, although I do want to do some of that, but I Iwant to get the most of out of my vacation time. Have any suggestions?
Lighthouse Lady with another question about San FranciscoWhich lighthouses do you want to visit? Many of them are more than an easy day%26#39;s journey from the city. If that%26#39;s your interest, some of the best ( and my personal favorites) are above Mendocino on the coast and into S. Oregon.
Lighthouse Lady with another question about San FranciscoI want to see as many lighthouses as I can see. I%26#39;m researching several in the area of San Francisco both south and north. I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;ve found one yet I can truly climb to the top of. Reyes, Montaro are two I%26#39;ve found lots of things on but I%26#39;m just finding information on Bonita, East Brother, Big Sur and a couple I%26#39;m not sure of their exact location. I will have a full week and I want to see as many as I can see, plus some of the sights in San Francisco. Any suggestions you can give will be appreciated.

This might work for the bay area lighthouses. It is on the edge of Golden Gate Park, 1 block from Haight St. Parking may be an issue. For those lighthouses, farther afoot, you might consider some other places to sleep.
Ive posted this in the other thread, so apologies for the double post. However, since your trip seems to be all about lighthouses, I strongly recommend you call teh folks at the US Lighthouse Society. They can point you towards tours (like the lightship in Oakland) and even help you make a reservation to stay at one of the lighthouses in the area that take overnight guests.
Seems to me that you can use San Francisco as a base to see the Pt. Reyes, Montara and East Brother lighthouses. These three are north, south and east, respectively, so if there are others that you can group on those on each of three days and leave the balance of time for sightseeing in SF.
The Big Sur lighthouse is far enough away (south) that I%26#39;d suggest you stay in that area, or slightly north in Carmel or Monterey. Once again, there are others that you%26#39;d probably like to group in with them and make a nice two-day foray south.
That would be five days right there.
Thanks you guys. I%26#39;m doing just as you have suggested, trying to group lighthouses together. I will contact the Lighthouse Society and see if there are possibilities of overnight visits at the lighthouses. I know the lighthouses that have the youth hostels are possibly available, but I%26#39;m not sure I want to room overnight with a group of youngsters and sleep in a bunk. I retired from teaching and am really enjoying the solitude of no kids for a while. It%26#39;s really more important for me to be able to climb a lighthouse and I think those are limited, but staying at one would be just as good. Thanks again for your help.
The one on Brother Island over in the East Bay, I think, is supposed to be rather nice, a B%26amp;B and not hostel experience.

This link has a little map so you can see where it is in relationship to SF:

I spent two nights at the Stanyan Park Hotel last year. I had a nice-sized room at the front. I liked the room but there is a bar down the street and it got quite noisy at closing time. My friend had a room at the back and didn%26#39;t have noise problems. The management was good. There is a parking lot across the street--$9 a night, which is excellent for SF, but no in-and-out privileges. Can%26#39;t comment on public transportation since I didn%26#39;t use it. All in all, a reasonably good experience.
