San Fran to Napa . . . By Train???

I will be in San Fran with my girlfriend for the July 4th weekend. I was wondering if there is a way to get from San Fran to Napa by public transportation [a train]. I am under 25, so renting a car will come with a surcharge. If there isn%26#39;t a train, then that will be my only option.

Also, since I am on the public transportation topic. How is getting from SFO to Downtown San Fran [Marriott San Francisco] by public transportation? We will be arriving on a Friday @ 11:50pm. Is it doable? Safe? Please keep in mind that we are both early 20s with plenty of europe/big city travel experience, so we are used to riding public transportation.

Thanks for the help and input in advance!!!

San Fran to Napa . . . By Train???

I assume you are going for wine tasting and sight seeing?

If so, your own car or organized tour are you best bets. The actual City of Napa does not really offer anything special and the wineries and sights are actually on the Silverado Trail and Highway 29 between Yountville and Calistoga. Even if you can get to Napa on public transportation, there is nothing to do or see without a car at that point. If you just want to get to Napa, check Greyhound Bus Lines.

Enterprise Car Rental offers the best under 25 deals.

To get to the Marriott, your best bet is a door to door share ride shuttle. The last BART Train leaves SFO at 11:46pm. If your flight is early, it is safe a would be fine. Get off on the Powell Street Station and the hotel is a couple of blocks. Try www.sfovan.com

San Fran to Napa . . . By Train???

Wes,

Thanks for the info. Yes, we are heading to Napa for some wine tasting, and not to particularly see Napa. I will check out enterprise soon for rates.

As far as the shuttle from SFO, they charge $14 each way, and $26 round trip [not bad]. Since our outbound flight is on Tue, July 4th @ 9:45pm . . . I will assume that the train will be running then. Do you know how much is the fare from downtown to SFO?

Do you know if the city of San Fran offers a tourist transportation pass for unlimited rides on buses, train, etc?

Thank you!

Yes, you can take BART back. The fair is $5.15 each way, per person. If you are flying back home at that point, BART drops you off at the International Terminal. If you are flying domestic, you will need to go up one level at the BART Station at the airport and take the AIRTRAIN to the domestic terminal.

There is a Muni Pass for unlimited rides on the buses, cable cars, street cars and metro. See www.sfmuni.com for more information.
