I am thinking my husband and I would enjoy a biking/cycling trip while we stay in Healdsburg. I have read a lot on the internet about cycling in Healdburg, and it sounds like a great place to ride. I am questioning whether to pay the $100 and up charge PP and do an organized tour, or get a map and venture out on our own. Any suggestions would be appreciated! We will be in Healdsburg from Oct 10 -13th.
From the other postings it sounds like we can spend an entire day in the city of Healdsburg with plenty to see and do. We have never been and are looking forward to the trip.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Karen
Cycling in Healdsburg.....Organized tour, or on your own?
In Sonoma, both the bicycle renting company and the visitor%26#39;s bureau have a map showing a cycling map marked with points of interesst. Check to see if this is true of Healdsburg. Perhaps Forestvillian knows. I think it would be more fun than an organized tour because you could stop whenever you found a point of interest.
Cycling in Healdsburg.....Organized tour, or on your own?
If you%26#39;d like info., maps and to strike out on your own with rental bikes, check with Spoke Folk Cyclery at 201 Center St. in Healdsburg (www.spokefolk.com). They%26#39;re loc%26#39;d a block so. of the Plaza. A couple of highly-rated tour groups: Wine Country Bikes (www.winecountrybikes.com) based in Healdsburg--not sure if they tour any other areas besides the Dry Creek Valley which is incredibly picturesque and tends to be less crowded than many cycling routes. There%26#39;s also Getaway Adventures (www.getawayadventures.com) which has cycling, kayaking and hiking, and offers Dry Creek as well as Napa Valley single-day tours.
If you head out Westside Road (popular with bike riders), its very easy to do on your own. That way you can stop here or there at wineries and enjoy at your own pace. There is some road traffic so be cautious of that....but the trip is a good one for bikes...with so many wineries within easy distance of one another. I%26#39;d only pay the organized tour price if you%26#39;re interested in spending the day with more people.
Thanks for your quick responses. I am leaning towards doing something on our own. We are kind of adventerous, and I think it would be fun.
I am so looking forward to our trip!

Hi! While I%26#39;ve never biked there, I am an avid cyclist and would consider it. However, I%26#39;d have a backup weather plan. The roads are well marked and I think you%26#39;d have no trouble doing it on your own. That way you%26#39;d be on your own time as well.
