We%26#39;re planning on going to SF in mid-August, and I understand the weather will be cool and foggy that time of year. My question is, how localized is this weather? For example, if you drive an hour south or east (or north for that matter!) does it get significantly warmer? I%26#39;m asking because although we plan on spending the majority of the week in SF, we may want to escape to a beach somewhere and I have no idea whether that%26#39;s feasible or not. Thanks!
How far away to beach weather in August?Generally, you can find some sunny weather north or south of the Golden Gate. Stinson Beach is a good spot about a 30-45 minutes drive to the north. 90 Minutes south is Santa Cruz.
You would need to check the weather before making any plans as it can be foggy along the entire coast
How far away to beach weather in August?When you%26#39;re checking the weather, you could do so several times a day.
The fog situation can and does frequently change during the day. It can be foggy early, late, in the middle or any combination thereof.
So if it%26#39;s foggy early, don%26#39;t despair, the day is still young. Or, if it%26#39;s not foggy early, don%26#39;t wait. Go now. It could be foggy later.
On a side note, I haven%26#39;t yet encountered anything that forcasts the fog to any degree of reliability here.
If you are lucky you will get weather like we had in SF last weekend, 78 degrees at Baker Beach just below the GG bridge. :) But it is entirely possible that the beach will be overcast.
In any case, you should be able to get beach weather down the coast in Pescadero (off 280 near Woodside), and definitely in Santa Cruz.
Sean420 has given you the most likely beach destinations with a chance of sun, Santa Cruz generally clears by noon. Now, if you want beach weather without the ocean, that%26#39;s easy. If you head north to Marin, south to the Peninsula, or east to the East Bay, it will get progressively warmer in a relatively short distance. The temps can increase by as much as 30-40 degrees. Plenty of sun nearby, but the coast is always cooler, but not always foggy.
Lots of other possibilities.
';Santa Cruz generally clears by noon';
maybe. But sometimes, the fog doesn%26#39;t roll in until noon, or just before sunset...
