Long weekend getaway ideas

My husband and I are looking for ideas for a little vacation we%26#39;d like to take sometime this summer. We%26#39;re thinking somewhere that%26#39;s driving distance, so probably not quite up into Northern CA with the short duration... We currently live in Carlsbad CA and just love little beach towns like Morro Bay. One thought was Solvang - we%26#39;ve driven by on our trips up the coast but never checked it out. I%26#39;ve heard there are great little beach towns all along the way, but have no idea how to pick! We usually love to do hikes and go sightseeing and would love to do a wine-tasting trip, but this trip will be more low-key and no alcohol for me as we are expecting and most hiking is going to be off limits. Probably more just relaxing and walking around the %26#39;downtown%26#39; area, maybe some shopping :)Any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome!

The obvious answer is Santa Barbara. A world class beach town with shopping, strolling, fine dining, fine accomodations, and, and, and.....Very pricey in the summer though. You might have better luck a little south in Carpenteria or Ventura. Still on the beach but not as glitzy. Ventura Holiday Inn is actually right on the beach. Haven%26#39;t been there for years though so check the posts.

Solvang is fun for trinket shopping, walking around and wine tasting but the beach (state park) is a 30 minute drive. Solvang can also be very hot in mid-summer. Maybe not so good for a prego.

A little further south check into Manhattan and Redondo Beaches. Miles of beach walk and bike path.

Ojai is nice and relaxing. Some nice restaurants, shopping and easy hikes. Also - you should treat yourself to a prenatal massage at the Spa there - it is wonderful.

I agree that Ojai is a great little town. There is a lovely greenbelt walking trail through it. Nearby is a lake where you can rent canoes etc. You can drive or ride bikes through orange groves.There%26#39;s a great book store and the spa massages are wonderful.
