Just a comment about the residential parking --pay attention to signs to make sure that a residential permit is not required! This can be a mistake people make, so just pay attention before you park!

There%26#39;s a lovely park across the street, which has views in one direction of downtown and the bay, and in the other out to the ocean.

It is a residetntial parking zone, but that limits the amount of time you can park there (I think one hour??) You may have to circle a bit to find the street parking. Be sure to curb your wheels- the area is hilly, and you%26#39;re just as likely to get a ticket for not curbing your wheels as you are for parking too long.
