Sea Sprite or Grandview Inn?

We%26#39;re thinking about staying a few nights this summer in either Santa Monica or Hermosa Beach. My wife and daughter want a hotel right on the beach, with an ocean view, and preferably a balcony. We%26#39;re also hoping to stay in the $250ish/night range. I noticed two hotels that seem to fit these requirements in Hermosa Beach: the Sea Sprite and the Grandview Inn. There are some pretty bad reviews here for both. We don%26#39;t need much in the way of amenities, but clean is a must.

Are these both ';avoid at all costs,'; or is either generally doable for a few nights?

Sea Sprite or Grandview Inn?

For a few nights the Sea Sprite would be ok for your budget. The location and surrounding area is a fun place to be in the summer. It is always booked. We eat next door at Scotty%26#39;s on the Beach, all the time, and people are hanging out on their balcony watching the sunset. For sure it is basic lodging, but in my opinion much better than Santa Monica for a beach experience.
