Yosemite Valley & Wawona Stables both open

Finally, I was able to call Wawona and set up our trail ride for our visit next month. We%26#39;re doing the five-hour ride up to Chilnualna Falls. This is the first day they are taking phone calls, and Happy Valley started up last Friday.

If anyone%26#39;s interested, here are the phone #s:

Happy Valley Stables: (209) 372-8348

Wawona Stables: (209) 375-6502

We had hoped to ride out of Tuolumne, but there%26#39;s essentially no chance of that happening during our mid-June visit.

I think the ride to the falls is an excellent substitute. I%26#39;ve never done it, so I hope you%26#39;ll report back and let us know how it went.

Thanks for keeping all of us updated here.

brodavefla _ aren%26#39;t you guys @ the Tenaya Lodge too?

Bluedog--no, we%26#39;re at Yosemite West. DW insists on a kitchen if feasible and practical. Not the most sumptuous accomodations, we understand, but that%26#39;s the closest place to the action that has kitchens available.

And yes, I will do trip reports! I%26#39;ll probably do separate reports later with the pix this time because experience with this website tells me that the pix take a good 2 wks to show up after posting.

Now that I think it was moe that%26#39;ll be there when we are. Hey any way we get there on Monday the 12th so who knows maybe our paths will cross.

We are planning on hiking out from the Glacier Point area some _ as long as the trails aren%26#39;t too boggy. Hopefully by then they%26#39;ll be passable from the Four Mile, Taft Point and Sentinel Dome.

I%26#39;m thinking that since we%26#39;re coming in on a Sunday, we%26#39;ll head straight to Glacier Point %26amp; then back a ways to the trail to Taft Point %26amp; the Fissures. Then on to check in at the condo, then down to the valley to look for that moonrise over Half Dome. The next day we%26#39;ll probably spend in the Valley, Day 3 riding the trail, then hopefully on the Panorama Trail to Little Yose Valley %26amp; ??? on Thursday. (That%26#39;ll be me and my son only--our strenuous hike.) I%26#39;d say we%26#39;ll be the ones with the BIG smiles on our faces, but that would probably include a lot of people!

Hey, you still have time- order yourselves some tripadvisor hats and then maybe you%26#39;ll spot each other on the trails!

Sorry, see that someone mentioned a ';good substitute'; on your trail ride. We%26#39;re going in mid-July. 2 adults, 3 kids (10/9/7); what trail ride do you recommend? None of us has much experience on horseback, not sure the 7yo is even old enough.

Thanks!

To tyegator: 7 y.o. is old enough, but barely. Best suggestion would be for you to contact the stables. As noted above, there is one in Yosemite Valley, one in Wawona, and one in the Tuolumne high country (though that one won%26#39;t be open until sometime after Tioga Rd. is opened, which easily could be not until July this year). Here%26#39;s a link with some info and contact phone #s for all three stables:

There%26#39;s also a minimum weight for kids that you can find out about by using this link. If it%26#39;s even feasible--and that of course will be determined by the stable folks--I would think that the 2-hr ride would be PLENTY for a 7-yr. old.
