We%26#39;re still trying to decide where to stay on our trip to LA next month. We have 2 teenage boys who want to be able to walk around on their own. Is there a hotel (around $200.00) that is in walking distance to a mall? Is it safe for teens to walk around alone?
THANKS!
Any hotels close to a mall?
Hi,
It sounds like the Farmer%26#39;s Daughter on Fairfax would be perfect for you. It is literally across the street from the Grove, a very popular outdoor mall, and the historic Farmer%26#39;s Market. The Farmer%26#39;s Daughter is more of a hip motel than hotel, but it%26#39;s really popular since its remodel. You are also close to CBS (a lot of tourists like to attend the game show tapings there). If would be very safe for your teens to walk to that mall alone. You would also be a short bus ride or drive to Melrose Ave. (you could actually walk there; it%26#39;s not that far). Do a google search to get the websites for the mall and you can look up info on the Farmer%26#39;s Daughter on this site. Have fun!

I second LA Native%26#39;s remarks. I recently had a long-time friend of mine and he brought his 17 year old son with him who, strangely, only packed one shirt. The boy went to the Grove and found what he wanted no problem. There are a number of stores of interest to teens, there, e.g. Gap, Pacfic Sunwear, Quiksilver. BTW. the malls website is:

Have fun!
BTW, Abercrombie %26amp; Fitch is currently closed for remodeling at this site.
Also look into staying in Santa Monica. There are a few hotels near the Third Street Promenade in your budget - it%26#39;s ideal for teenagers and right at the beach.
Thanks, those are some great ideas. I%26#39;m so glad that I found this forum.
f I had teens I would stay at the Renaissance at Hollywood-Highland. It%26#39;s attached to a mall, the Chinese Theatre, the Kodak Theatre, the Walk of Fame, and a very cool bowling alley. It%26#39;s also a block from two Hollywood history museums and the Hollywood Wax Museum, Ripley%26#39;s Believe It Or Not Museum and more. You%26#39;re also one subway stop from Universal and down the street (walkable) from the Hollywood Bowl. From that same subway stop, you can get downtown to Disney Hall, Olveira Street and the Music Center.
The Roosevelt is another option, or the Magic Hotel. This hotel is run by the Magic Castle, a private magician%26#39;s club. They allow guests into the club (for kids that would be Sunday brunch) and have kitchenettes.
This two block area is very touristy and very safe because of all the people walking around.
