We%26#39;ll be in SF next month for a few days, and of course will go to Chinatown. I have an interest in jade jewelry, and was wondering if any of the jewelers or other merchants there do a decent trade in jade. Does anybody know?

Many of them sell jade. I cannot vouch for the quality but you will find it all over . There is also a wonderful exhibit of carved jade items at the Asian Museum.

Quality is a big if. I recommend doing plenty of research prior to buying any jade if any amount of money matters to you. Be careful.
I was in Hong Kong not long ago with the same question. People were saying that I should go somewhere else like Burma or the far western desert of mainland China for the best jades...
Appreciate the prompt responses: yes, we are already planning to go to the Asian Art Museum. Thanks for the heads-up on the jade, I hope to see some Chinese porcelein too! A museum in our fair city had an excellent porcelein collection yrs ago with examples back to neolithic times.
Thank you Darth A--yes, I already started researching re: quality. So as far as my research here is concerned, I have learned that I can find jade of some sort in Chinatown, but still don%26#39;t know what the quality will be like.

Sounds like if you have a little Indiana Jones in you, you might do well with jade! ;-) Myself, I%26#39;ll settle for a nice green apple jade earrings for the Mrs. if I can find some at a reasonable price, if the jewelers are reputable...
BTW, does anyone know if the Chinatown merchants would haggle a little over the price?
