summer fog in Monterey

Our family and another are spending 3-4 days in Monterey in mid-July (roughly July 10-13). We will have 4 teens with us and although we%26#39;ve warned them about coastal fog and cool July temps, I think they are still expecting at least a little sun and fun.

Are we going to have bummed out teens on are hands? Is the July fog a constant all day? Does it generally clear during mid-day, as I%26#39;ve heard some locals describe it? What kind of temps are we talking about? We are complete novices to the California coast, so any specific, helpful lowdown would really be appreciated. Thanks.

It is hard to predict, but sometimes July has the hottest weeks of the year, and there is sun. Other times not. dunno.

Pacific Grove is the foggyest. Carmel, Monterey, and Santa Cruz are sunnier. Carmel an Santa Cruz have wind blocks. Good luck

Here%26#39;s what I just posted for someone else:

When you%26#39;re checking the weather, you could do so several times a day.

The fog situation can and does frequently change during the day. It can be foggy early, late, in the middle or any combination thereof.

So if it%26#39;s foggy early, don%26#39;t despair, the day is still young. Or, if it%26#39;s not foggy early, don%26#39;t wait. Go now. It could be foggy later.

On a side note, I haven%26#39;t yet encountered anything that forcasts the fog to any degree of reliability here.

I remember talking to a photographer one morning last year who was about to do a couple%26#39;s wedding photos at the beach. I asked ';John, will it be foggy?'; John says ';Nah...%26lt;something about marine layers that was completely over my head%26gt;...it%26#39;ll be clear the rest of the day.'; Sure enough, the fog rolled in that afternoon. Sorry. No sunset shots.
