We were a group of 8, 3 parents, 5 children ages 4 - 17. We stayed on property at the Disneyland hotel. Great accomodations, Disney really takes care of everything. They made sure we had adjoining rooms, had the park hopper tickets available at the front desk, all that.
Our only complaints? That the monorail isn%26#39;t running due to the new refurbishment of the submarine ride....The walk from the park back to the hotel after a full day of Disney was just too much for the 4 year old. Also, that you can%26#39;t take the strollers that you rent at Disney, back to the hotel. I would think that they could check and verify that you were staying onsite, by your room key, and then allow the stroller to go back to the hotel with you. My final gripe, was the restaurant Goofy%26#39;s kitchen. Seriously, the price!??? If you have already spent the money to stay at the hotel, and paid for the park hopper tickets, you would think they could be a bit more accomodating for the buffet prices here. $22.00 per adult, and $15.00 per child, for a breakfast buffet of bacon eggs and pancakes...uhh no...we passed.
That said, we had a terrific time! The pool was a much welcomed site in the early evening, the kids went down the slides a hundred times, and parents enjoyed the hot tub. There were 2 weddings while we were there, and it looked like a beautiful backdrop with the waterfalls, koi pons, and all the lush greenery.
We were afraid the crowd would be terrible, but they were not out of line for most summer weekends. I haven%26#39;t been with a 4 year old in quite some time, and it sure makes for a different kind of magic! I must say, the princesses and characters do a FABULOUS job of speaking to your children and posing for pictures and autographs. One of the characters we encountered this morning, even spoke in Japanese to her small admirer!
We did not use our Ridemax program, but did take advantage of the fastpass. The longest wait we had in during the three day weekend was about 35-40 minutes for Pirates of the Caribbean. To our amazement, we walked right on to It%26#39;s a Small World, Peter Pan, and Haunted Mansion.
Food was as good as always. We enjoyed the frozen pineapple ice cream at the tiki room, the frozen banana%26#39;s off the carts, and our guilty indulgence-the chocolate dipped giant strawberries.
To anyone going in the next few months, I wish I was going with you! Have a great trip!
Trip report-Disneyland Labor Day weekend
We were down from Aug 26 to Sept 3 and have the same complaint regarding the long walk back to the Disneyland Hotel at the end of the day. We rented a stroller on the last day for our 5 year old and we took the stroller back to the hotel during the day and returned it when we went back at night.
We did not have long lines on most of the rides and only had to use the fast pass on a few.
I agree the price for breakfast at Goofy%26#39;s Kitchen was too expensive and we did not go either (another party of 8 - 6 adults, 2 boys).
Our trip was great .
Trip report-Disneyland Labor Day weekend
Sounds like fun, does anyone know when the submarine ride will be finished? I loved that ride, it%26#39;s great that they are bringing it back! :)
The current ';Goal'; of having the FInding Nemo Sub Lagoon attraction up and running is late June, early July of 2007, though there is a lot of things that could make a change in that date...
Currently, they are hoping to get the Disneyland Monorail back up and running for 3 weeks starting December 15th, before it closes again until Finding Nemo opens, though the Hotel division is trying to get that date moved up. New Monorails are being built by Disney and will need a lot of testing.
As for strollers (and also manual and electric wheelchairs), I STRONGLY recommend you rent off property, many places will deliver to your hotel, this way you have the stroller/wheelchair for your entire trip.
For strollers, you can go to a Target (two on Harbor, one a couple miles south of Disneyland at Chapman, or a few miles north on Harbor at Orangethorpe), or you can take the I-5 northbound from Disneyland to Euclid and go to Wal-Mart. You can buy a new stroller cheaper than a few days rental, and you have it for the entire trip, and when you are done, you can drop it off at a Charity drop off place, or just leave it at the Front Desk, letting them know to give it to another visitor, or maybe a staff member that might need it. A lot better than just renting.....
So it will have a Nemo theme, sounds like it%26#39;s going to be a cool ride when it%26#39;s finished! :)
How long is the walk from the DL %26amp; DCA back to Paradise Pier? We are thinking of booking PP in Nov.
Thanks,
mrs-mjt:
The walk from the Paradise Pier to California Adventureis very easy: you just cross the street, go through the lobby of the Grand Californian, and follow the signs to that hotel%26#39;s entrance to the park.
The walk to Disneyland itself takes a little longer. You get directions when you check in about how to head over to Downtown Disney and catch the monorail. But we only did that once since there was a bit of a wait because they were only running one monorail back and forth due to the construction on the Nemo ride. (Even that%26#39;s not available now.) Instead, we cut through California Adventure and followed their signs for Disneyland. That was quite a bit quicker than slogging through the crowds in Downtown Disney.
Enjoyed reading your review...glad you had a good time. One of the neat things about staying at the Disneyland Hotel (besides the Neverland Pool) is the monorail...and it being under construction definately makes things harder...I agree that (especially now with the monorail rennovation) that being a hotel guest you should be able to take the stroller back to the hotel. It would also be nice if downtown disney had stroller rental especially is you%26#39;re a Disney Visa card holder the stroller rental in free.
