Where is the best tree grove in the park?.. Also what is best hike that is fairly easy but very scenic? thanx
Best Place to see
We always like the easy hike/walk from Camp Curry to Happy Isles on the trail. Its very scenic, pretty. It is a popular one. There is a river at the end (Happy Isles) and if you go when the museum is open, you can explore there. If you decide to go only one way, you can take the shuttle back around. Its a nice walk.
In terms of best tree grove it is up by the Wawona Lodge - about an hour to 90 minute drive dependent on traffic (i.e. motor homes going slow, etc.). It is called the Wawona Big Tree Grove.
If you have a car, the drive to Glacier Point for an outstanding view of the entire valley is well worth your time.
Enjoy your trip - Yosemite is wonderful all year long!
Best Place to see
The giant sequoia grove near Wawona is the Mariposa Grove. This is where the famous Grizzly Giant tree is, and the old drive through tree, which fell in 1969. It is the only one in Yosemite that you can drive to (or take a bus when the parking lot is full). The parking lot is on the edge of the grove, to actuallly see more than a few trees you either have to take the tram or hike through the grove. I recommend that you get up to the upper grove, near the small museum. This is where the best trees are in my opinion. You get on and off the tram and hike around for a while if you don%26#39;t want to hike the entire grove.
An easy hike with stunning views is from Glacier Point Road to Sentinel Dome and/or Taft Point and the Fissures. Start from a trailhead on GP road before you get to Glacier Point. Similar views to Glacier and Washburn Point, without so much crowding.
Your post didn%26#39;t state what time of year you are going or how long you are staying, but if you have time and are so inclined, my favorite FLAT hike (and you can go as little or as far as you like) would be anything in the Toulumne Meadows area. Especially along the river!
Thanx for the reply. i will be in Lee Vining this Tues night. Then in Yosemite valley at the lodge on Wed.
The Sentinal Dome trail is not too hard, my parents did it earlier this year and are both in their 70s, the views are hardly surpassed and because it is a bit lesser known, the number of people you will meet along the way is greatly reduced making the experience a much more personal one.
This is accessed off the Glacier Point road.
Have a great holiday, the weather right now is just fantastic up here!
Then you will be going right through Toulumne Meadows. The hikes/walks there are really pretty and as steep or as flat as you want.
