I%26#39;m traveling to San Francisco for a weekend in October and couldn%26#39;t decide on a hotel. I definitely would like a nicer hotel since it is for a small romantic getaway. I would prefer more modern hotels to more traditional or boutique hotels. My top choices so far are the Mandarin Oriental, St Regis, or Four Seasons unless anyone has a favorite I might have overlooked. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Hotel Dilemma
Well, while it is a boutique hotel, one I will add to your list is the Hotel Vitale. It is at the Embarcadero and the rooms are fantastic. The panoramic suites are stunning and the bathtub in them is big enough for two and you can look out at the bay while in the bath. I highly recommend it. It is a smaller hotel, but it is very modern and virtually brand new --it has only been open for about a year and a half. Check the photos... even if you like big hotels, I think this is worth looking into.
That said, of the ones you have chosen, I personally don%26#39;t think you can go wrong with any, however, I am definitely a Four Seasons fan. The service is absolutely fantastic and even the basic rooms are spacious and lovely. I can%26#39;t say enough positive things about them.
The Mandarin has some great views.
The St. Regis is also virtually brand new and the decor is very, very modern. Check out the photos on this site if you haven%26#39;t already.
Hotel Dilemma
Consider the El Drisco in Pacific Heights. I believe it is on Jackson St, maybe Pacific. This is way off the tourist path in San Francisco%26#39;s most exclusive neighborhood. The streets and architecture are exquisite. I believe this area would be very nice base for a romantic getaway. You could still take cabs or the public transit to the main tourist attractions if you want. However this would probably be less modern and more in the boutique category. It is where the residents of Pacific Heights house their guests at times.
