Best place to stay with no car

Hi

I am from New Zealand and will be visiting San Diego next April with my 2 Teenage daughters, I am a bit confused about what are is best to stay in Hotel Circle or Mission Bay. While there we wish to visit the Zoo, Sea World and Tiquana and the Seaport Shopping area. We will most likely be arriving vai Train from Los Angeles.

Thanks for your help

Pick any hotel in our dowtown district, Gaslamp Quarter or Little Italy. All these will provide plenty of restaurants and shopping in a pedestrian friendly environment. I would avoid both Mission Bay and Hotel Circle as both are very auto-oriented away from easy busy or trolley connections.

The Zoo is available by short cab ride or bus ride as are the other attractions in Balboa Park.

Horton Plaza is a large shopping center in downtown. Seaport Village is a shopping area near the bay at the edge of downtown.

Many attractions, including Tijuana, can be reached using the San Diego Trolley. This also includes our best shopping center: Fashion Valley Mall. Old Town State Park, a historic district is on the trolley route. Trolley and Bus information is available on the web at www.sdcommute.com

The train station is located downtown alongisde Kettner at Broadway (if you%26#39;re looking at a map).

I agree with tootall. Neither MissionBay or Hotel Circle is convenient without a car. The on eother possible place to stay besides downtown and little italy would be the area near Old Town State Park. It is also a stop on the train from LA . I tis just north of little italy which is just north of downtown.

Hi

We have stayed for the last 5 years in Hotel Circle without a car %26amp; never had any problems using the trolley %26amp; buses to get around - that%26#39;s if you don%26#39;t mind a 5 or 10 min walk here %26amp; there . Also most of the hotels offer a free shuttle service to/from airport/train station /zoo/seaworld.etc. We can recommend Days Inn Hotel Circle South as a convenient place to stay. It is clean, friendly ,has a nice pool %26amp; the PamPam Diner does a good breakfast.

You can buy travel cards for 1-4 days which cover bus/trollley %26amp; will get you as far as the Mexican border on the trolley. No car = no parking problems or having to pay for parking at your hotel.

Have fun!

Hi

Thanks for your help starting to make more sense.

How easy is to cross the border to Tiquana by taking the Trolley ?

Is it safe on your own or is a tour better and would you recoomend 1/2 or full day ?

Thanks for your help

Peter

The only reason to go to Tijuana is to get a little flavor of Mexico by walking around a bit ,shopping and perhaps having lunch. You can ealsily do it you rself by taking th etrolley to the last stop at the border(blue line) and then walking across. YOu can then walk to AvenidaRevolucion or take a taxi(it is not far). I fyou decid eto take a taxi you need to negotiate the fare before getting in. We always walk. ON AvenidaRevolucion if you walk to the left a few blocks on the left side ,down some stairs in a market palce there is La Especial which is a restuarant that has been there forever. I thas lovely painted furniture, decent food, and sometimes music. Please check and make sure your passports are OK for going into Mexico . Idon%26#39;t know the rules for Kiwis.
