We are looking for a very upscale romantic place to stay on Catalina. We have never been, but are La Jolla locals and very spoiled when it come to accomidations since we are both world travellers. Is there anything out their that is truly special and unique? I am geting the impression that it is not so upscale. Also any great place to dine that experienced Catalina goers recommend
most romantic, for a quick honeymooni have been wanting to stay for years at the wrigley mansion...aka inn at mt. ada....saw it on alifetime show on weddings and thought the view was spectacular! however, the photos on the web don%26#39;t seem to make the rooms look inviting(kind of dated) and for the price they are asking i just haven%26#39;t done it...hopefully, someone out there can tell us if they had a great experience..............
most romantic, for a quick honeymoonHamilton Cove is your best bet. However, it%26#39;s not a hotel but it%26#39;s really romantic. You can take your meals in town if you don%26#39;t cook. Pack some clams, a lobster, some pasta, tiomatoes and a few bottles of your best wine. Order silk sheets and bring them along for your bed and pack 500 tealights from IKEA.
Go to the local bakery for pastries.
For the most romantic dining on the island try the Country Club. The surroundings are beautiful and the food and service superior. The nighttime scenic tour is nice for great evening views of the town and harbor.
I haven%26#39;t stayed there, but I%26#39;ve heard the Snug Harbor Inn is very nice. If you look at their website you%26#39;ll see panoramic views of their suites -- they look like honeymoon heaven to me. I%26#39;ve walked past this hotel and it%26#39;s located on Crescent Ave, right across the street from the beach and near all the restaurants and a short walk from the Catalina Express dock.
The Inn at Mt Ada is also supposed to be very nice. It%26#39;s in a beautiful location away from the busy town, with a view of the town and the bay.
The Hotel Metropole has some suites and a two-bedroom, two-bath cottage that looks good. Check out their website for photos of their rooms.
Congratulations and good luck!
HOTEL METROPOLE ALL THE WAY! We stayed there for New Years and were impressed daily with the service, quality, and views. This is a true hotel on an Island that otherwise severly lacks nice accomodations. The Hotel Metrople is of the quality you will find in New York, LA, or any major metropolitan city. Our room had an amazing fireplace, king size bed, soaking tub with separate shower, desk, dvd player, refridgerator and a great view.
By the way - avoid the Catalina Seacrest Inn! We originally were going to stay there, but checked out the same day we checked in after we saw the ';room';. Terrible accomodations, Horrible owner (Crass, rude and does not appreciate his guests) He didn%26#39;t refund our money when asked, I had to dispute it with my credit card company, and when I won, he took me to small claims court, in Avalon!
When you stay at the Hotel Metrople there is an AMAZING Italian restraunt just around the corner -The Ristorante Villa Portofino- at the bottom of the hill - one of the best we%26#39;ve been to, with a nice environment and exquisite service by the owners. They can do take-away to bring back to your comfortable room at the Metropole... perfect by the fire.
I posted some photos on this site about the Inn on Mt. Ada. We loved it. I also wrote a review that tells you more about the mansion. It is secluded quiet and the best place to stay on Catalina.
have you gone yet? if not, i would suggest a new hotel that is only about a year and a few months old called the The Avalon Hotel. I have not been to the Inn on Mt. Ada and that may be one to check out as well (amazing location and views) however, I did stop by The Avalon whilst on a walk this past weekend and was very impressed with this newest ';Boutique Hotel';. Check out their website at theavalonhotel.com. I will definitely stay there the next time I go.
There are several nice hotels in Avalon. I%26#39;ve stayed at The Inn at Mt. Ada. It is a bit pricey but well worth the money and great place for a romantic get away. It is located on the hillside east of the bay. It is the old Wrigley Mansion. They have a wonderful breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. They also provide golf carts to get around town.
we were married there 9/11/00. yes, it is wonderful and beautiful
