Appreciate some help in finding a good site for downloadable street maps of S.F.
Thanks, as always, for the great assistance offered on this Forum.
S.F. Street Maps.
Personally, I like the maps available on the Muni website

If you%26#39;re planning to do some walking, the San Francisco Bike Coalition has a nice street map overlayed on top of a topographic base: %26lt;http://www.sfbike.org/download/map.pdf%26gt;
I found the maps on this site to be absolutely great. They%26#39;re simple without being overly busy and have the important tourists things clearly marked. I only needed the first 2 maps (SF and MUNI). They come out really clear printed on 14';x17'; paper. I don%26#39;t think I could have managed so well without them.

I looked at them the last time they were mentioned and thought them, except for the not-bad one of The Wharf, awful. They might be useful for an idea of where things are but not very for getting around. Did they help you get from one place to another, spiaggia_girl? Were you surprised that distances were not correctly represented by the maps?
The map of a small portion of downtown looks like the work of a greedy marketer: Where%26#39;re the places frequently mentioned in this forum such as Biscuits %26amp; Blues? The Gold Dust Lounge? Lefty O%26#39;Doul%26#39;s? The Daily Grill? Foley%26#39;s? Na%26#39;an %26#39;n%26#39; Curry? The noodle place across on O%26#39;Farrell near Powell? Rasputin Music? The Pinecrest? Etc.? It%26#39;s also out-dated, but not by much.
The best on-line MAP of San Francisco is an inter-active PDF created for the San Francisco Municipal Railway: geocities.com/iconoc/Grafix/CityWide.pdf. I recommend 150% or greater magnification. There%26#39;s also a link that will tell you HOW TO GET THERE FROM HERE. Other links on the page, geocities.com/iconoc/Grafix/FlagMaps.html are a map of our CABLE CAR ROUTES and a superb map of GOLDEN GATE PARK.
I was recently asked how to print those maps but I don%26#39;t know. Skilled *.PDF users might have an answer.
Yes, we got around splendidly with those maps. Lifesavers! I don%26#39;t know how accurate they are but we were able to use them for getting on and off the buses/cable cars and they seemed very accurate for the places we went to. I do notice on one side of one of the maps it says it%26#39;s not to scale for a section that%26#39;s far away from the Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf area. We weren%26#39;t going there so it didn%26#39;t affect our travelling. I think what I liked about the maps were that it was simple and easy to see. It was good for going to the 5-6 places that we wanted to go to. Probably for really grand exploration, it%26#39;d be better to buy a Rand-McNally type but we were only there for a day and it got us around.
I picked up ';Streetwise San Francisco'; at my local bookstore for around $7.00, and found it to be very useful. It%26#39;s a thicker cardboard material and folds up nice into a compact size. It includes bay area, city and public transportation. Don%26#39;t know if it%26#39;s downloadable but thier addy is streetwisemaps.com.
If you are a AAA member you can obtain free maps of San Francisco (and anywhere else) at your local AAA office or you can order them online
