Looking for some advice on where to go for a romantic, semi-luxury long weekend.
I%26#39;m pregnant and due in December and we%26#39;re looking for one last trip in Oct., not too far from SF.
These are my ideal requests:
Sunny and hot, so not necessarily coastal
Nice accomodations with pool and maybe some sort of spa
Not Napa, or N. Bay as we%26#39;ve been up there a bunch
Good food
Husband is photographer, so somewhere where he can shoot
Our first thoughts were Carmel Valley, Kings Canyon (although I think it may be too ';hikey';), Lake Tahoe (too cold?)
Any suggestions are sooooo appreciated.
If there are specific places one has stayed that they love, I would love to hear about them.
thanks!
Last getaway - sort ofCarmel Valley weather should be nice in October--could be anywhere from 70s to 90s. Take a look at Los Laureles Lodge and Carmel Valley Lodge. If you want more upscale, then Bernardus Lodge, which has a spa (for massages, etc.). Carmel Valley Village has some very good restaurants: my two favorites are Corkscrews and Cafe Rustica. Rustica has such a varied menu and a pretty patio area for outdoor dining--you could easily go there more than once. There are beautiful hills in Carmel Valley for taking photos, but I think the best place for photographers is Point Lobos State Reserve, about 25 minutes from Carmel Valley along the coast just south of Carmel. It is a hiking place, but the trails are very easy. I don%26#39;t know if it would be appropriate for you or not.
Last getaway - sort ofThe Carmel Valley would be nice, you may also want to consider the Carmel Highland%26#39;s area. We have enjoyed several stays at the Highland%26#39;s Inn. Right next door is the Tickle Pink Inn which is also great.
Bernardus Lodge is a beautiful property, I have a couple of photos of the pool area under the Carmel Valley Hotels section here. Wickets was very good for lunch, there is also Marinus, the more formal restaurant there where a jacket is required for dinner.
Chateau Julien and Bernardus are nice places for wine tasting in Carmel Valley. :)
