My daughter and I will be flying into LAX from Reno following a conference a 5 pm. Our flight to Brisbane Australia leaves at 2320 from Terminal B which I gather is not such a great terminal. What do you suggest we do at LAX or can we go anywhere in this time?
TIA
Kat
5 hours at LAX airport before flying homeYou really only have 3 hours because you have to be at the airport at 8:30 or 9:00 (2100). But this does give you time to have dinner in Santa Monica or Venice Beach or Redondo Beach or Hermosa Beach. You would take a taxi (about $15-$20) but be sure to keep a card to call the taxi as you cannot just hail one, in LA. You have to call for one.
We can give you restaurant recommendations if you tell us your budget, or what kind of food you would like.
5 hours at LAX airport before flying homeThanks yogachick I just read about not being able to store your bags at LAX so I%26#39;m not sure if we can leave the airport. My daughter is a teenager and likes the usual teenager food but we love italian and fish. It does not need to budget.
Thanks again
In that case, you have only 2 options:
1. Store your luggage with an ';off-site'; firm that will pick it up from you at the airport and return it. Here%26#39;s one:

2. Hire a car, stow your luggage in the boot and drive to dinner. It may sound expensive but if you add together two taxi rides at $20 each plus the storage (which comes out to $15 or more per piece) and that%26#39;s $70 or more. A hire car is less and a lot more convenient.
And because the drive is close by and doesn%26#39;t require driving on any motorways, it%26#39;s a distinct option!!
Good luck.
I%26#39;m not sure about driving I think i would be too intimidated! Anyway if we just opted to shop and eat would this be an ok option The Promenade at Howard Hughes Center ?
It%26#39;s possible that your luggage will be checked through to the next flight, or that you can check it through before leaving LAX.
The Howard Hughes Complex is close, but Redondo or Hermosa is so much nicer to visit. I believe there%26#39;s a free shuttle, or a very inexpensive shuttle, even. If you search ';layover'; in the LA forum, you%26#39;ll see all of your options.
Most airlines will accept luggage up to 4 hours before departure. Perhaps, they will make an exception, in your case, and take your luggage a little early. I would call them and ask.
Another idea (which may or may not work) is to contact one of the big hotels next to the airport and see if you can take the free shuttle to the hotel and leave your bags with the bellman. Then, you could pick up the Manhattan Beach shuttle to Manhattan Beach and spend some time there. Try the Radisson Hotel, for example.
Good luck!
Thank you everyone for your help. This has given me some great alternative choices to look into.
Manhattan Beach is 3 miles south of LAX and is about a $12 Taxi ride from the airport. There are many great restaurants in town.
Tell the taxi to take you down Sepulveda Blvd. to MB Blvd to the base of the pier. It%26#39;s a nice stroll on the pier and there are about a dozen restaurants right in the area, among shops, to choose from.
Beaches restaurant faces the ocean, Rock %26#39;n Fish is across the street, Cafe Pierre, Fonz%26#39;s, Octopus, Mama D%26#39;s, Mangiamo%26#39;s, Waterman%26#39;s Grill, Hennesey%26#39;s, and the Kettle come to mind.
Ok I%26#39;m pretty sure we will go to Manhattan Beach eat and look around the shops so thanks everyone for their suggestions. We are going to have our luggage becasue we probably can%26#39;t chekc in till 730 and that is too narrow a margin. Won%26#39;t hire a car becasue just not confident enough with a nervy teenager.
But I also arrive in LA from Hawaii at 630 in the morning and my connecting flight out to Nevada leaves at 1210 it is with American Airlines so will they check my bag through but again have I got time to do anything. Maybe breakfast by the beach but it would be a quite expensive breakfast with cab fares.
My daughter bascily just wamts to shop so shopping malls are might attractive to her!
IF you want to go shopping in the morning on the first leg of your trip, you could go to Manhattan Village Mall on the corner of Sepulveda Blvd. and Rosecrans.
