Lone Female Traveller Traveller - Ideal hotel

Hi folks

Thinking of coming to San Francisco first week in October for almost a week. Total nightmare trying to find the right hotel. Looking for a reasonable priced hotel near everything. Like own bath etc etc. It is knowing the safest area getting to and fro from. I don%26#39;t drive so I would be using public transport to get round to looking at the sights. Your advices will be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Gracie

Have a look at the Chancellor Hotel.

Perfect location right on Union Square_____well priced_____good amenities and great helpful staff. read the TA reviews.

I recommended it to a friend travelling alone the same as you - travelling from Scotland and she absolutely loved it.

Look at their website and click on ';Tour Information'; and you will see a good description of Union Square which is where you want to be.

October can be busy with a few things happening. You could contact Wes Tyler direct and see what he can do for your dates.

That%26#39;s because there are so many to choose from. The two already mentioned in the Union Square area. Depends on what ';reasonable'; means in hard dollars to you, but you really can%26#39;t go wrong with the two already mentioned. There are many more.

The two mentioned will fit your bill perfectly. There are others which are less expensive, however, they are also not of the same quality for the most part.

If you feel that you need less expensive accomodations than the two hotels already mentioned, check out the Powell, the Hotel Des Arts and the Grant (NOT to be confused with the Grant Plaza as the G.P. is a dump!)

Hi Gracie,

Two places I have stayed at for years are the Redwood Inn and the Francisco Bay Inn. . . and they are right across the street from each other on Lombard St. (if one is full up, the other usually has room). Both are CLEAN (that%26#39;s a biggie for me at hotels), inexpensive, and are in a safe neighborhood. Plus, both places have knowledgable front desk staff that can guide you in transportation needs. . . .

Welcome and enjoy!

Many thanks for your helpful responses - They have given me a starting point and I am sure I might have a couple of questions.

Best wishes

Gracie

P.S. I forgot to mention, both the Redwood Inn and the Francisco Bay Inn have FREE parking on site (which is a rarity in SF). If you go with another hotel, be sure to ask about parking and price (that is if you%26#39;re driving while in SF). . . .

Phil

This poster states that they do not drive and thus, parking costs will not be an issue.

Thanks folks - I am afraid I cannot drive - so no worries about parking etc. Although one of the things I have discovered there is a lot of no-smoking hotels in SF. I am afraid I am one of those - we seemed to be ban from lots of places.
