We%26#39;re thinking of spending some time in Sausalito on our trip to San Francisco next weekend. I%26#39;ve looked through various guidebooks, and Sausalito is usually mentioned but that%26#39;s about it. I%26#39;ve read there are great views, but I%26#39;m not really sure what there is it to do there.
If we go, we were thinking about taking the ferry there and back. We would go late Friday afternoon, wander around, eat dinner, and head back. We won%26#39;t have a car, is that an issue in Sausalito? Are there little shops that will be open in the evening? Are there street artists? (I think I might have read that somewhere.) Any suggestions on restaurants? A great view would be nice! I%26#39;m assuming it would be too cool to eat outside though? We%26#39;d probably like someplace pretty casual, but other than that I%26#39;m open to anything.
Thanks!
Sausalito - Should we go?
Ferry is definitely the best way to go. You can walk around from the ferry landing and see most of Sausalito. Parking a car there is expensive and difficult. I am sure the shops will be open Friday afternoon/evening. I am not sure when the last ferry goes back to SF. You might want to check that. It is predicted to be very hot in the Bay Area next weekend. Lots of casual (and overpriced) restaurants in Sausalito. The ferry ride may be the best part.
Sausalito - Should we go?
Good question Ivy
We did the Muir Woods/Sausolito tour and decided to stay longer in Sausolito and get the ferry back. Glad we did as it is a nice ferry ride but besides a nice lunch we did not do anything else while there. Sure it has expensive boutiques etc but it is just a short street and then what? Perhaps if the weather is good you can walk to the house boats or somehting but I was a little under-whelmed with it. Definitely no street artists or any outdoor activity for that matter
We like Scomas restaurant in Sausalito, right on the water. Spinnakers, and Horizons are great as well. Lots of great little shops only a block or two over from the Ferry Pier.
I believe the last Ferry for the night back to S.F. is like 7:20 or 7:30 pm. Absolutely stunning views of the S.F. skyline at dusk waiting on the pier. Check out the Inn above Tides right along side the pier. Ask to see one of their rooms if possible, they are fantastic.
Great views of the bay at night coming back on the ferry. You will really enjoy it..
I agree-the ferry to Sausalito is the way to go. Beautiful views and lots of great little shops and restaurants. There%26#39;s a place that has YUMMY ice cream-just to the right of the Inn at the Tides (right by the ferry stop)-can%26#39;t remember the name of it but you can%26#39;t miss it. (Would anyone know the name of this place?) Have fun!
Do a search for a recent post - ';Return Ferry from Sausalito';.
In there you will find websites for restaurants I recommend and Girasol supplies websites for Ferry so you can confirm return times.
Have a great visit.
