I want to take my daughters (bride, age 26; maid-of-honor, age 21) for a long week-end getaway about a month or two before the June 6, 2007, wedding.
We want to relax and enjoy a surfing beach (with lessons) as well as massages, wine tasting, maybe horseback riding on the beach, and a few local landmarks like Sea World or a Pier. I could rent a car if necessary but would prefer a location where walking or bikes would suffice.
I%26#39;m looking for a luxury Bed %26amp; Breakfast (preferable), or hotel immediately on a beach in southern CA that would appeal to my daughters with no road or bluff to manuever. I want an ocean/surf view with a balcony or door from our room directly onto the beach.
We%26#39;ve never been to California before so any advice about location and timing (re weather) will be appreciated.
I am currently looking at the Beach House on Hermosa Beach or the Ancient Aromatics Sea Spa %26amp; Guest Suites in Ventura but I realize the later is not right on the beach. Does anyone know if it is nice enough to forfeit the beach view and walk a block to the beach?
Thank you!
Pre Wedding Ladies' Spa TripSorry no one has responded to this! I would look into the Ritz Carlton chain. I know of a friend who did exactly what you are talking about for her bachelorette party. I believe she went to the one in Laguna. If it is at the Ritz you can%26#39;t go wrong!
Enjoy!
Pre Wedding Ladies' Spa TripThanks MC!
The Ritz would be great if it%26#39;s on the beach. Do you happen to know?
I had originally planned a get-away for the entire bridal party of 9, but decided a trip with just my two daughters might be nicer and easier to arrange. Besides, I%26#39;ve wanted to surf since I was a teen and I%26#39;ll be 58 when we take this trip! This should make quite a memory for all of us!
Ritz in Laguna, Montage in Laguna, Shutters in Santa Monica. Hotel del Coronado in San Diego.
I didn%26#39;t suggest the hotel Del because I have never seen anyone surfing there, I don%26#39;t think they have a spa with massage and most of all there have been several posts lately saying they are doing construction and there are labor prob with pickets.!
Thanks everyone. I can%26#39;t find Shutters in Santa Monica. Do you have a link or a maybe a different official name?
Is early May a good time for surfing / enjoying the beach? Does anyone know anything about SurfDivas (www.surfdivas.com).
Hi again , surf divas is a great company !! They work from La Jolla Shores Beach. They specialize in women teaching women to surf. If you stay at La jolla Shores, or La Jolla Cove you will need a car. I didn%26#39;t mention it because you were trying not to use a rental. The hotel at La jOlla shores -The SEa LOdge IS right on the lovely white sand beach BUT it is NOT luxurious. I would say it is 3***. The neighborhood is nice though. It is the beach closest to my house.
It%26#39;s called Shutters on the Beach Look on this site in the hotel listings

My son just stayed at Shutters on the Beach and absolutely loved it! It looks like a very nice place, he said I would have loved it there! Hvae fun! :)
From what you describe you%26#39;re looking for, I%26#39;d focus in on the Laguna area. It%26#39;s beautiful, the water is nice, and there are plenty luxury accomodations on the water. I%26#39;m sure you could find both surf lessons and all the above there.
While I grew up in the beach towns of LA (Hermosa, etc...), I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s exactly what you%26#39;re looking for. Shutters is nice and fun - but the water is not the cleanest.
I think Laguna will be more of the classic luxury ocean vacation that you%26#39;re looking for (pretty, safe, fun).
There%26#39;s also always wonderful Santa Cruz california (they offer begginer surf lessons in calm waters -you can see them out there daily and it looks like a lot of fun) - but it%26#39;s not in southern california (closest airport San Jose). And, you have to wear a wetsuit in the water in May. But, having said that...it is extremely beautiful, the whole town is walkable with interesting things to see, the redwoods are close by, and there are wineries (good ones) within a short driving distance (such as the bonny dunes winery).
