We (2 adults/2 children) will be staying at Anaheim and wish to do a couple of day trips to the LA area and also Universal Studios but don%26#39;t want to spend lots on pre-arranged transfers with travel companies. We are planning on buying tickets on line direct from the parks, etc
Can we catch the Metro rail from Anaheim to Universal Studios? How long and how much does it cost per person.

Transport Anaheim to LA/Hollywood on the Metro?

From the Anaheim Train Station, you can take the Amtrak to LA Union Station. Check the Amtrak website, for prices. I think it%26#39;s $7-$8, but confirm with Amtraks website.
Then transfer to the Metro Redline to go to downtown LA, Hollywood and Universal Studios. Or take the Metro Goldline to Pasadena. To take the Metro trains it%26#39;s $3 for the whole day.
Transport Anaheim to LA/Hollywood on the Metro?
To amplify Amsocal%26#39;s directions:
1. Take either the Amtrak (national rail company -- amtrak.com) or the metrolink (regional rail company -- metrolinktrains.com)
Both train lines stop at the same train stations.
a. For Amtrak, you may purchase your tickets online
b. For metrolink, select the ';Orange County'; line to look up the schedule. You may only purchase tickets at the station or on the train.
Commuting times are less than 40 minutes.
2. Once arriving at L.A. Union (rail) station, switch to the local (in-city) metro rail RED LINE train. There are two RED LINE trains departing from Union Station. Both go in the westerly direction (since the station is the first stop on the RED LINE) but the two RED LINE trains separate into different directions after a few stations. So, BE SURE you are on the train that is marked ';NORTH HOLLYWOOD'; on the front of the train and also in the middle of each of the cars. If the sign says something else (WILSHIRE/WESTERN), wait for the next train.
When you return from Universal, you won%26#39;t have this problem since only one of the two train lines goes to Universal. However, make sure that you get on the train that is going in the correct direction, i.e. toward DOWNTOWN.
3. You can buy a $3 DAY PASS which is good on all METRO RAIL (in-city local trains -- not METROLINK regional commuter trains) from the vending machine at Union Station before getting on the first redline train.
4. The stop before Universal Studios is the Hollywood/Highland stop in Hollywood which features the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Chinese Theatre and is also a great connection point for buses to most of the areas of Los Angeles of interest to tourists. There is a bus stop on the sidewalk (in front of you) as you exit the metro station in Hollywood.
